Katwe Corner – Africa’s first puppet reality show

Project Description

Katwe Corner – Africa’s first puppet reality show

Designed in response to several needs for an effective vehicle to educate and inform broad audiences, “Katwe Corner” takes unscripted audio from focus group discussions and brings those real-life conversations to life by puppets in a thought-provoking short-form narrative.

Katwe Corner’s pilot episodes focus on reproductive health, corruption, gender roles and diversity.

The show was developed together with Liouse Gikow, an Emmy award winning television writer who has developed programs for the Jim Henson Company; Ronald Binion, Emmy nominated veteran television puppeteer; and Howard Blumenthal, President of Media Independence and Peabody award winning co-creator of “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego.”

Dr. Russ Tisinger of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has provided pro-bono services, designing a two-step Solomon Four research experiment to test how effectively the videos produce knowledge acquisition and attitude change.
